My Accountability Page

One of the most important components of a successful change is accountability – without it, it is just way too easy to forget your goals. I know I keep my blood sugars under much better control when I have to report my daily readings to my doctor!

So find a way to make yourself accountable – hire a coach or find an accountability partner who will be tough with you. If you have a blog you can use your readers as your accountability partners.

So here is my accountability page – because as a coach with integrity it is vital that I walk my talk. Plus as all my health problems last year have shown me, I need to get my weight and my diabetes under control once and for all time.
Exercise is something I have been very good at avoiding but is vital to change this if I am to achieve my goals.
So for the month of January I have set a target of 20 minutes of exercise 3 times a week. I will report here every Monday with the previous week’s results. Any encouragement, hints, tips or support that you have please leave in the comments section.

The mindset shift that I am working in is that exercise is fun! I will be mostly using the wii fit as my exercise workout which will definitely help this mindset shift. I am going to be careful to notice any feeling of well-being after I have exercised in order to attach positive emotion to my new mindset.

Wish me luck!

Week of Jan 4th-Jan 10th

This was a challenging week because my medication was changed and I experienced Nausea pretty much the whole week. Because I am determined not to let excuses, however valid, derail me I worked around them. I decided to exercise 6 days for 10 minutes so that minute count would stay the same. Also instead of doing deliberate exercise, I built it into my life. I did the cliched things like taking stairs instead of the elevator, parking my car as far as possible from the entrance. Also being Wisconsin, we have snow on the ground so shoveling accounted for my daily exercise for a few days.

I felt really positive about being more active and repeated that positive thought to myself many times. I was also pleased to be a good role model for my children who happily joined me in being more physically active.

Overall a good first week both for exercise totals and also for setting up my new positive exercise/being more physically active mindset.

Week of Jan 11th-Jan 17th

In an effort to keep the exercise intereseting and fun I bought an inflatable exercise ball

I sit in front of the my favourite shows and work on my core. My 11 year old daughter Sasha also absolutely loves it – she has mild ADHD so has problems sitting still at the best of times so now it is a regularly occurence to watch her fly across the sitting room on the ball and land in a messy heap somewhere. I do not think it is quite what the ball is intended for but she is getting terrific exercise and she is having a ball (groan) at the same time. I highly recommend the ball – Walmart sells the one I got for $19 and a cheaper brand for around $14 if you want to get one locally.

Week of Jan 18th-Jan 24th

Starting to see a little definition in my arms from the weights that I have sitting next to the couch so that I can lift for a while whilst I watch tv – I am all for sneaking in exercise where I don’t notice it.

Week of Jan 25th-Jan 31st

Went back to the wii this week for my daily 10.

Week of Feb 1st – Feb 7th

More snow took care of 2 days exercise, mall walking with my daughter was another day and used the ball the rest of the time. Starting to lose some enthusiasm and having to force myself more.

Week of Feb 8th – Feb 14th

Had such a bad dose of the flu that I ended up a night in the hospital so no exercise at all this week. Good news though, my picc line has been removed – this has taken off a lot of pressure off my heart – my resting pulse has gone down from 90 to 77 so exercising should start to get easier now. Though after spending a week in bed I am out of condition. I was going to start stepping it up to 15 minutes a day but I will keep to the 10 until I regain some of my fitness.

Week of Feb 15th – Feb 21st
Not a good week exercise wise as I talk about in my post here I am so out of my routine that I need to realign myself with why I am doing this and make a commitment to do better next week.

Week of Feb 22nd – Feb 28th
