Did you read Monday’s post on Mindset? If not I suggest taking a few minutes to do the exercise. Then consider how successful you were with your goals in light of what values you wish to adopt. We all have values instilled in us from childhood that may well not suit us in adult life and these values may be working against us in our goal setting as they form unconscious mindsets.

If you are seeing a pattern here – where an unwanted subconscious value is undermining you then craft this week’s goals very carefully to be directly and obviously correlated with a value you hold. Even if this goal does not further at this point your larger mission, it will help in the long run by rewriting your brain to be more in line with what you hope to gain. Sometimes we have to take sideways or even backward steps to get ahead later on. This is especially true if you have often almost made it but have fallen at the last few hurdles as your mindsets trip you up – make instead mindsets that will give you wings!

Do not forget to celebrate what did go well for you – no excuses – you absolutely DO have time to do this.

So how successful were you with your goals this week? Do not forget to celebrate each and every win.
I have mentioned before that sometimes we do not achieve success because our goals are not properly aligned. It is important to be aware of our values as our goals must be in alignment with our values in order for our subconscious not to sabotage them. I found on Steve Pavlina’s blog a list of values. Print them out and go through the list with a highlighter pen, marking all values to which you feel drawn to. Go through the list quickly the first time. Then go through the highlighted list and narrow it down to the 10 most important values to you. When you make up your list of goals for next week, try to identify the value that lies behind the goal and check to see if it is in your top ten. If not consider a different goals that is more aligned.
Also print out your top ten values and pin them somewhere you can see them to remind yourself to act in alignment as often as possible and you will find your subconscious becomes an ally rather than a saboteur.

So how did you do on your goals this week. If the answer is great then celebrate this weekend!

If you did not hit some of your goals this week, ask yourself how aligned your are with the goal? Is it your perspective of the goal that is getting in the way. I know one of the goals I have been struggling with this week is putting together a new client introductory pack. I bought a couple of packs from the internet but none of them conveyed what I want to convey with my coaching so it has become clear to me that I will have to do it from scratch so that it will be in total congruency with my practice. I am still struggling with exactly what I want to include in it and I have discovered that I am not totally clear about certain parts of my business. So I have taken a step back to clarify further my goals, aims and ethos behind my business so that the client package should be much easier to write. Often, when goals are hard to accomplish, there is something unresolved in the background. Reset your goals for next week to resolve the issue then tackle the original goals at a later date.

There is no doubt that the cornerstone of any attempt to make a change in one’s life is the setting of goals and then having accountability of reporting the success or otherwise of achieving the goals set.

If you hit your goals this week then celebrate! Do something fun this afternoon – you deserve it. If you did not hit your goals it is very important that you do not beat yourself up about this. Examine the reasons that prevented you from success – did a health issue come up, were there unforeseen circumstances or were you goals unrealistic in the first place? Try to keep an attitude of detachment here – imagine that you are talking to a close friend rather that yourself in order to show kindness. We learn possibly more from our failures than our successes as long as we do not get discouraged.

So be kind, be honest and figure out what stopped you from hitting your goals this week. Think of adjusting next week’s goals if needed but do not try to play catch up – as there is nothing worse than feeling behind all the time.

Also try to see if there were any mindsets getting in the way – did fear or procrastination pull you up? Try to discover the negative thoughts that came up when you tried to complete your goals. Make sure you make a note of these thoughts so you can tackle the mindset behind them at a later stage.

Feel free to use the comment section here as your public accountability.
