Mindset – Cultural values
One of the major sources of mindsets is cultural values and mindsets. What we wear, eat, have as hobbies are examples of what is very often culturally biased. Of course there is nothing wrong with this unless it hurts us in some way. If you come from a culture in which very fatty and high calorific foods are the norm and you are concerned with your health, then you will have to make a choice – and because the behaviour is motivated by a cultural mindset, this is not an easy choice to make. Sometimes substitutions for the worst offenders is all that is necessary – sometimes a complete overhaul is necessary.
So this week’s exercise is to try to identify the cultural influences on the behaviours that are not helping you. Identifying the existing thoughts and mindsets is the vital first step to lasting change and taking into account your cultural background could well shed some light on this.
