Thursday is Gratitude Day
I think Thursday will quickly become my favorite day as it is the day that we focus on gratitude.
Gratitude is important because it focuses us on what is already working in our life – we tend to focus so much on what is going wrong with our life that all our attention goes there. The neurons associated with the wrong things in our life are fired over and over so it is no wonder then that the brain things that’s how things should be. Imagine teaching our brains instead on how great our life is so it will search for ways to continue to bring in the good things.
Feel free to add what you are grateful for in comments or if you prefer to keep them private, grab some paper and write them down. Really bask in the good feelings that will arise.
Today I am grateful that I am on a new medicine that seems to be making my neuropathy a little better. I am especially grateful for my parents who continue to be such incredible support. I am grateful for my wonderful children who continue to bring delight into my life every day. I am grateful for my cats because they feel so good to stroke. I am grateful for the cup of tea in front of me and the blow heater at my feet that is keeping me toasty warm.
Today’s Gratitude quote
Albert Schweitzer:
To educate yourself for the feeling of gratitude means to take nothing for granted, but to always seek out and value the kind that will stand behind the action. Nothing that is done for you is a matter of course. Everything originates in a will for the good, which is directed at you. Train yourself never to put off the word or action for the expression of gratitude.
I’m grateful for my dog who is keeping my feet warm. I’m grateful for the fact that, even though my water supply is frozen, I was still able to shower this morning and I have access to fresh water from up the lane. I’m grateful for the opportunities that are always coming my way. I’m grateful for my wonderful, supportive friends and family. I’m grateful for my online community. I’m grateful for the food I’m about to put in my belly. I’m grateful for the warmth coming from my woodburning stove. I’m grateful for all the fabulous teachers in my life – including you, Katherine. I’m grateful whenever I see the law of attraction in action. I’m grateful that I can hear music and the sounds of nature. I’m grateful for the beauty all around me and that I am able to see it. I’m grateful for my cats who make me laugh with their antics. I’m grateful for this timely reminder to think of all the things I’m grateful for!
Thank you!
I’m grateful that my daughter with learning delays has begun to read on her own and that she actually wants to read. She read the cereal box this morning while I was trying to pour it for her.
I’m grateful for the sources of inspiration and support like you, Katherine.
Thanks Sue for playing along and leaving that LONG list of all that you are grateful for. I hope the exercise left you feeling more positive about your life and all the good things in it.
Jenn, how fantastic for you! Reading is one of my number one favourite things to do in life so I am so glad that your daughter is also starting to see the joy in it – this week a cereal box – next week Shakespeare!
